Harps Everywhere! By Lisa Burkhardt Worley

I like to worship God using YouTube videos in the morning, and lately, harps have been popping up everywhere. One harpist caught my attention because he was playing the Shema on the harp as King David might have played it. The Shema is located in Deuteronomy 6:4-7 and it says:
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Hearing this put to music was beautiful, so I reached out to the harpist, Michael-David. We had a great meeting, and he and his Jewish, screenwriting wife are going to be guests on our POP Talk TV show in December!
Could the revival of the harp be a sign of End Times?

This is very possible. In Revelation 5, the 24 elders, bowing before Jesus, all had harps in their hands, as well as bowls of incense representing the prayers of the people. In Revelation 14:2 the 144,000 are Jews who become believers in Christ during the last days, are also playing harps. And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.
In ancient Israel, the harp was used to praise God. In Psalm 150:3, it says, Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre. When David brought the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem, he appointed Levites to enhance the celebration with harp music. David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound with musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals (1 Chronicles 15:16).

The harp is the only instrument in the Bible used for healing as David played his harp to calm King Saul when he was tormented by evil spirits (1 Samuel 16:23). So, if we are getting close to Jesus’s return, it makes sense that the harp will be predominant in the celebration, and God’s eternal plan for us is worthy of praise. As Revelation 21:4 promises, He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Let’s sound the harp. God’s promises about a future without death or pain is worth celebrating!
