Holy Anticipation

car on highway

Long car rides. When you’re behind the wheel, you’re occupied with driving, but when you’re the passenger, what do you do?

Puzzles?

Read Magazines?

Make to-do lists?

After hour three, and plum out of conversation, my mind begins to wander.

As I find myself embarking on yet another God assignment, I’m using my car time to reflect back on the road that led to this place. I think about the connections God has provided over the years, the training he’s given me, the desire he’s placed in my heart, well in advance of the call, and I realize God knows what he’s doing.

Jesus, James, and John

Didn’t Jesus tell his disciples, “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…”

Why don’t we believe it? Why don’t we wake up every morning with holy anticipation of how we’ll be used by God…greatly? Why do we continue to settle for mediocre when God’s word says, “Nothing is impossible?”

We often forget we are serving a God whose ability is beyond our comprehension. If he’s placed a desire in our heart, the one who called us is faithful, and he will do it.

What has the Lord put in your heart to do? What is your passion? Your dream, specifically designed for you?

Don’t give up on it.

Place it at the feet of Jesus.

Follow his lead.

And trust what’s happening.

Always the over achiever, I have this global desire to reach the world for Christ. To draw people to him. to help his children overcome past dysfunction that paralyzes them. That’s why I write. That’s why I speak. That’s why I love social media.

This dream is definitely too big for me to accomplish on my own, but I know it’s not too big for God, and he proves that to me, again and again.

If God has given you a dream, give it back to him, and he’ll make it a reality.

As I watch vehicles pass by our car on the highway, I realize the Lord has provided the vehicles to accomplish the dream in my heart, his dream. I am amazed at how he works, and sometimes it takes a little car time, driving across a vast countryside, to open my eyes to the vastness of God greatness.

“Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.” (Psalm 145:3) LBW
