I Saw the Lord by Lane Jordan Burday
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Isaiah 6:1
I sing a song that begins with this verse, and it is one of my favorites. Can you imagine being in the presence of the Lord and having the beautiful, golden temple filled with His overflowing robe?
Whenever I sing this song or read this verse, my heart soars with my love for God and His great holiness. He is God, and He is alive and real in my life!
The rest of the verse shows His holiness: “And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory’” (Isaiah 6:3).
When we identify and live our lives as Christians, we expect that our love for Jesus, our hunger for His presence, and our urgent longing to see Him again will be a constant, motivating force in our lives.
Yet sometimes, in the busyness of our days, the duties of our jobs, the familiar habits of our worship, or the everyday routine of our homes, the longing becomes complacency, and we sleep through opportunities to be with Him. And we all need something to wake us up to seek Jesus with the passion we had when we first met Him.
Revelation 2:4-5 says, “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! But there’s hope. Repent and do the things you did at first.” This is a reassurance that we can always return to our first love with Jesus through repentance and recommitment.
Christians, we need to make sure we haven’t lost that first love we received when we came to Jesus in humbleness and asked for His forgiveness and His coming into our lives.
So, what we need now is a personal revival—not in a tent meeting or a series of church services, but real, authentic, down-on-our-knees repentance and a heart searching for the first love for our Jesus! Let us be motivated and determined to seek this revival. Are you?
My Holy Lord, please forgive me for not having you as my first love. I love you, dear Lord, and my life is in Your hands. Thank you for saving me and giving me a life blessed by You. AMEN.
