No Denying by Lisa Burkhardt Worley
This week I have been stationed in a room at Avoca Coffee Roasters in Denton, Texas. This is where editor, Hannah McGinty, and I have been diligently editing a new documentary to fight Holocaust denial, Their Blood Cries Out. I have remembered this tragedy with a solemn spirit, but I have also been anxious, as creating a documentary is like birthing a baby. I have cried several times because it is a very heavy subject, and some of the video is graphic.
However, I have never denied, nor will I ever deny what happened to the Jewish people during World War II when six million innocent people were brutally killed during the Nazi Regime. It is part of my calling to educate others about this hatred.
There have been other things that I cannot deny. I cannot deny that the LORD lifted me, a fatherless child out of a difficult start on this earth. I will not deny the change in my direction and countenance after surrendering my life to the LORD in 1993. I also cannot deny the supernatural experiences I have been a part of over the years—in particular hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit at critical crossroads in my life. One example is the time I heard in Israel, “Your Jewish father died, but your Jewish roots never died.” Since that message in 2014, I have been on a journey that involved advanced schooling and landed on a mission to fight antisemitism through documentaries. There is no denying the calling.
There are some things we cannot deny, so when we fall away from God, we need to remember the inexplicable happenings in our lives where we know that the LORD guided us or came to our rescue. Despite what happened during the Holocaust there were some miraculous stories, like the one I just heard about a young nurse who saved 2500 babies.
Or like my friend, Rosian Zerner’s story. During the Holocaust, her parents pushed her through a hole that they dug in a Lithuanian ghetto so she could be rescued. It’s an undeniable story.
We all have scenarios we cannot deny. What’s undeniable in your life?
