Thankful for His Faithfulness by Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.

Kaboom!
On Monday morning, the crack of thunder woke me up before 5:00 a.m. Should I just get up or try to sleep a little longer? I dozed off, only to be woken by my husband’s alarm at 7:15 a.m. Oh no! This was late for me. We had a cleaning service scheduled for 8:00 a.m., and I had not had my coffee.

What? The coffee pot was broken. I knew it was on its last leg, but it is never convenient when the coffee pot takes its last breath. Emails and text messages were already coming in. I tried to answer them while simultaneously figuring out how to get caffeinated. My usual routine of putting God first in the morning with worship—Bible reading, and prayer—was turned upside down. And at some point. I felt convicted. Even with the morning chaos, I should still have put Him first, coffee-less.
What I have found is that when our faith wavers, God is still faithful. When we, on occasion, push Him to the bottom of the priority list, He forgives us.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the Lord’s faithful nature. 2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful,” and Lamentations 3:22-23 states, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
It is amazing that no matter how we failed Him the day before, He gives us another opportunity the next day to make it right. With repentance, He says, “That’s okay, daughter (or son). Let’s try this again today.” He is always faithful to forgive and forget.

This morning, my heart is overflowing with love for my Heavenly Father. When other relationships fail, He promises never to leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). I have lived long enough and have faced enough rejection to know this is true. He’s our go-to when we need direction or counsel. When we feel alone, he reveals His presence to us. This Thanksgiving, will you reflect on our God who has been there with you through good times and bad?
He is faithful.
