Timing is Everything by Lisa Burkhardt Worley
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
My father died two months before I was born, but I just found his obituary online this week. I had never seen it before and through it I learned something about my dad that I did not know.
My dad was a physician who graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. While that was not new news, from his obituary write up I discovered that he was also a Professor of Pathology at Northwestern for many years. Why is the revelation significant? After four years of coursework, this week I started work on my 140-page doctoral paper, a requirement to graduate from The King’s University with a Doctor of Ministry in 2025. I do not think the timing of learning that my dad was a professor simultaneously with beginning the final leg of my doctoral journey is a coincidence.
This is an example of how God encourages us when we need it the most. God’s timing is always perfect, and with a mountain of a paper in front of me, knowing my father was also in academia is the extra incentive I need to stay the course and complete my doctoral project.
When there is a calling on our lives, we may not be able to complete the task in our own power, but God will provide everything we need to get the job done. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says, “The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” Your project may require financial provision, it may need organization, or endurance. Whatever is required, the LORD is standing close by to provide.
Are you facing an overwhelming task right now and long for extra incentive to complete the job? Ask the LORD for His encouragement and provision. He will time it out perfectly so that you are motivated to continue moving forward.
