Waiting on Him by Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.

But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength…(Isaiah 40:31, NKJV)

My husband often says his role in my life is to “drive, wait, and carry” because of all of the activities I am involved in. There are people to meet, jobs to complete, and possibly books to carry. I often see him give me that “It’s time to go” look.

Waiting is the hardest thing to do, and not many people enjoy it. Waiting for a test result. Waiting for the opportunity. Waiting for a situation to turn around.

But God tells us it is best to wait on Him to act. Isaiah 64:4 says, No ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him (Isaiah 64:4, NKJV).

What are you waiting on?

I occasionally have prophetic dreams. The LORD generally confirms the dream in the natural, and I can choose to be anxious because it isn’t happening now, or I can trust and rest, knowing God has given me a heads-up about a future event. It’s a lesson in giving the dream back to Him until the appointed time. I confess it is not easy for me to wait, and as a creative, I can imagine and configure many ways the LORD will carry out His plan.

However, when we wait on the LORD, we receive renewal from GOD.

But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).

If we ruminate on a future promise, if we don’t wait on the LORD and try to make things happen in our own power, it will zap our strength and wear us out. His timing. His way. His plan is so much better, so let’s wait on Him.
