Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it (Isaiah 30:21).
It’s that time of year in North Texas when the weather can turn from sunny to stormy in minutes. When it gets really bad, the emergency alert system interrupts programming.
In the same way, the Holy Spirit provides an internal warning system. Have you ever spoken to someone when you got a check in your spirit that something was not right? It could have been the Spirit issuing a warning!
During the Apostle Paul’s missionary travels, Paul was kept from preaching the word in the province of Asia. And when he tried to enter Mysia (now modern-day Turkey), Scripture says the Spirit of Jesus prevented him from crossing the border (Acts 16:6-9).
In another example, Annanias and Sapphira sold a property to give as an offering to the apostles, but they kept back some of the money for themselves. When they presented the gift to Peter, the red flags waved at Peter and he confronted both Ananias and his wife for lying and cheating God out of the full amount. How would he have known that except that the Holy Spirit informed him? Both Annanias and Sapphira dropped dead after the confrontation (Acts 5:1-11).
We must remain grounded in the Word of God, and throughout each day, listen for the LORD’s holy direction. We will know when we are called to divert, leave a scenario, or confront, as Peter did. God loves us and protects us from evil. We just need to pay attention to the unsettled feelings stirring within us because the Holy Spirit has activated His warning system!
