What To Do When You Need an Answer? By Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.

What should we do when we don’t know what to do?

There have been many times in my life—current day included—where I am perplexed about the correct way to handle a situation. I can feel confused, not knowing what decision to make or which way to turn. But we can learn from biblical history.

We should remember the Israelites, who, when being pursued by the Egyptian army, faced a Red Sea roadblock. Yet, they escaped the approaching army when God supernaturally parted the Red Sea.

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left (Exodus 14:21-22).

Let’s recall Peter’s plight when, in chains, all hope seemed to be lost, but he was released from prison by an angel.

Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands…When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him (Acts 12:7-10).

And we are encouraged by Daniel’s story, who was supernaturally saved after being thrown into the lion’s den.

My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight (Daniel 6:22).

What is your lion’s den? Do you feel surrounded?

What chains hold you captive?

What is blocking your progress?

When we do not know what to do about a seemingly impossible situation, God will direct us through a passage in the Bible or a devotion.

He will provide wise counsel through godly friends.

He might enlighten us through a pastoral message.

Sometimes, a dream will provide the correct answer.

The LORD still performs the miraculous in our lives, and He will create a game plan for the most trying of scenarios. We just need to trust that He will maneuver us through, then out of our trials.
