I was thinking about how we tell our children how much we love them and how we encourage them and tell them, “Good job.” When they feel like they don’t fit into the standards of the world we say, “Don’t worry. You’re beautiful and I love you just the way you are.” We can try to tell them over and over again how much they mean to us, and how much we love them, but it seems like they just don’t see how we can. It can make a parent a little frustrated because we think, When have I ever made them think that I don’t love them? When have I given this child a reason to think I would lie to them?
Do you think that God feels the same way we do as parents? It seems to me our heavenly father does the same for his children. He encourages us, tells us we’re beautiful and says, “It’s ok if you don’t fit in. You are my child and I love you. Have I ever lied to you? Have I ever given you a reason to doubt my love for you?” It says in the Word that God IS love! “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4:7-12).
And for God there is no earning of love — God’s love is an absolutely free gift of God’s very self to us. Romans 5:8: “But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
We want to give our children the best. I will work my hardest if my child needs new clothes or if there’s something they want for Christmas or for their birthday because I want to give it to them.
Our loving father in heaven says he also wants to provide for us. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matthew 7:7-11)
I want to share a quote from Max Lucado. “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning… Face it, friend. He is crazy about you!”
God loves you!
