Deep Calls Unto Deep by Lane Jordan Burday

Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and bellows have gone over me. The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me – a prayer to the God of my life (Psalm 42:7-8 NKJV).

As I am writing this blog, I look out the long windows and see the beach. Yes, I am on vacation in one of my favorite places, where the glistening white sand goes for miles, and the foam of the waves crashes in a beautiful rhythm. The day started out overcast, but the sun is beginning to peek through the clouds. But I don’t care if there is rain or sun because just seeing this great and endless creation makes my soul soar.

Just yesterday, as I walked along the beach, I marveled at how majestic God’s creation is! How did He create such endless beauty? I sang to Him, praised His Name, prayed, rejoiced that I am saved and loved by Him, and my heart felt pure, calm, and at peace.

Then this morning in my quiet time, I read the above verse. Deep calls unto deep! Yes, that is what I have been experiencing from the Lord. This verse came to me at just the right moment.

God speaks to us from the deepest heaven, and then we hear from our deepest being. How blessed are we who hear from the God of the whole universe?! It makes me so grateful, so thankful to the point of overflowing. How can we not share the goodness of God with the world?

But I also want to share the verses that begin Psalm 42. I believe God dearly wants us to strive in every way to get close to Him:

Deer near fence in czech farm

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the Living God.”

What a comforting thought to know that we can connect to the God of the universe and to know that He is there for us through every second of every day, day and night.

This is what I have been experiencing this week at the beach—this deep connection to my God, my Savior. I’m not focusing on my life back home, all the responsibilities and daily things that need to be accomplished. Instead, I am sitting in quiet peace, focusing on the God who so lovingly saved me and who will never leave me.

It makes me want to sing and shout to the Lord with this joy God has placed in my soul!

Psalm 95:1-2 shares this feeling: “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”

My prayer is for you to find the deep in your soul that wants to connect to the deep in God. Walking this closely to Him will change your life forever.
