For God to Heal our Nation by Lane Jordan Burday

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. — 2 Chronicles 7:14

Nothing can bring us more hope and joy than to know God hears us when we call to Him. He promises that when we humble ourselves and confess sin, He will hear us, and on top of that, He forgives our sins and heals our land.

After Solomon dedicated the temple, the Lord appeared to him, warned him, reassured him, and told him that he had heard Solomon’s prayer and that this temple had been chosen for sacrifices and for His glory.

However, if the people begin to follow other gods, God will send judgment through drought, locusts, pestilence, or other countries destroying them. What is so sad is the Israelites did follow other gods, and God brought other nations to destroy them and their city.

In 2 Chronicles 7:19–22, God says, “But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and command I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. … Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why he brought all this disaster on them.” God means business when we worship ourselves and reject His Word.

So, how does this apply to us? We must look around us and observe that fewer people follow the Lord. Most of the world has many idols and gods they serve rather than God, the Creator of the whole universe. No matter who we are, if we forget to prioritize God and don’t humble ourselves daily to serve Him and follow His will, He will let destruction come into our lives.

God loves us so much. He sent Jesus to teach us the good news. We can’t allow the world to take us away from His love. We must fall on our faces before God and follow Him. It’s a choice that will change our lives. And it will change our city and nation.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Psalm 33:12
