Life in 3D by Lisa Burkhardt Worley
I realized this week that three major projects are concluding at the same time, and they all start with the letter “D”: Doctoral Project, Documentary, and Devotional.
I thought there must be some significance to this, so my prayer partner looked up the letter “D” in the Hebrew alphabet and the letter “Dalet” means “Door,” so I believe that the Lord is saying that He is opening doors through these three projects. However, there is a depth to the meaning of the Hebrew letters. “Dalet” can also signify that we must be in a state of humility and selflessness to pass through the door. The minute we begin to get puffed up over accomplishments, therefore removing the glory from God, is when we lose favor and the door closes.
There are many “D” words associated with excellence. Discipline, diligence, and devotion are three, and I believe that God loves it when we live life in 3D. Our work should be done wholeheartedly as an act of worship. My work and volunteer life changed when I embraced Colossians 3:23-24 that says:
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ (NLT).
This has been a difficult stretch, and I have learned that working on three major tasks simultaneously is almost more than I can handle, but I an still giving it my all, as we should with any calling of God on our lives. Instead of grumbling and complaining, let’s claim the other verse I often repeat: For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13, NLT).
We need supernatural help to manage the day-to-day tasks and problems. Merriam Webster defines 3D as “a three-dimensional form.” And as I reflected on that definition, I realized we also need to live life leaning on these three dimensions: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. With this trio at work, we live more excellently and our lives have more fullness.
What about you? Are you living life in 3D?
