For Such a Time as This by Lisa Burkhardt Worley

The story of Esther has been a repeat message spoken over me lately—the fact that I have been created “for such a time as this.” They are referring to the documentary work we are doing to fight antisemitism. As antisemitism is escalating again worldwide, this work is important at this time in history.

In the biblical book of Esther, Esther was a Jewish orphan, raised by her cousin Mordecai, who won a beauty pageant to become Queen of Persia. When a wicked man named Haman put together a plan to annihilate the Jews, Mordecai sought Esther’s help. Esther had not been summoned to the King’s chambers for thirty days, and was concerned about entering without an invitation because she could die. Mordecai replied, “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:13–14, NIV).

It is my belief that we have all been raised up “for such a time as this.”

I am now producing documentaries to educate the population about antisemitism, but what has God called you to do? You were born at this time for a reason. You have a unique purpose and you have been gifted to fulfill this aspect of God’s magnificent plan—for such a time as this.

The important truth to believe and understand is that you are on this earth for a reason. You are an important piece of the puzzle. Without your contribution the puzzle is not complete. Don’t let the enemy of your soul tell you any different.

Last year, God asked us to travel to Toulouse, France to produce a documentary on antisemitism. It did not make sense, but because He asked, we trusted the call and went, and now He is pouring out His blessings on this project—it is being distributed worldwide through film festivals—and we are thankful.

So I invite you to do some reflecting and some questioning today. Ask God what he desires of you. Ask him to define your purpose and be willing to go and do what He requests. Your life matters because you were born—for such a time as this.
