Jesus Was Born To Do This by Lisa Burkhardt Worley
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
(Isaiah 9:6)
According to Isaiah 9:6, when Jesus entered the world, he was God incarnate and provided supernatural counsel and peace. How many of you have experienced godly counsel and inexplicable calmness? Jesus made that possible.
However, for many of us who began life without a father, the fact that God’s Son was willing to step into an Everlasting Father role for those of us who need a paternal presence, is especially meaningful. He has enough bandwidth to be a Father to anyone who experienced that void in their lives.
Our Father’s eye is watching over us. During my childhood, I kept my Heavenly Dad busy. I should have died after getting hit by a car at age 12 but I came away with only a badly bruised leg. I once flipped over my bicycle handlebars, landed on my head, but only suffered only a concussion. Lightening danced around me during a thunderstorm at the local swimming pool but I managed to avoid being struck. Luck or Fatherly protection?
Our Abba Father a great listener. I find myself having daily conversations with Him through prayer, and thankful that Jesus’s birth makes that possible. It is through Jesus’s eventual sacrifice that we can enter the Holy of Holies and meet one-on-one with our beloved Father, and that entry card is available to anyone who believes. 1 John 3:1 affirms our Father/child relationship: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
Do you need a dad’s love in your life? You are never too old to embrace the Everlasting Father. He has been there for the fatherless from the beginning of time, and today, the offer to be a dad is still on the table. I praise you, Jesus, for your birth, and for providing so many wonderful attributes that bless us. On behalf of all fatherless children, thank you for being an amazing Father. It is something you were born to do.
