Just One Person by Lane Jordan Burday

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).

I had the great honor to work with Dr. Charles Stanley in his media ministry and saw the way God used his messages to spread the Gospel to the world. From humble beginnings of cassette tapes to his In Touch TV program to In Touch Messengers, a handheld device that has been sent throughout the world with God’s truth in every language.

I received updates from people who have been saved through these messages. One woman, Leda, shared her story from her life in Albania, which became an atheist nation after World War 11.

“The first time I heard the gospel was in a small, dark bathroom. My grandmother, risking everything, gathered my cousins and me inside the cramped room and locked the door. She whispered to us about Jesus – His birth, His death, His resurrection. But not before warning us never to repeat what we heard. Not to our friends or schoolteachers. Not even our parents. In communist Albania, those words could have cost our family everything – their jobs, freedom, even their safety.”

Once communism fell in 1990, she began to explore this faith. At 16, she encountered the gospel and grew hungry to learn more about Jesus. It was hard, piecing together her faith through scraps of Scripture distributed by missionaries. She mentioned that the Holy Spirit had mainly guided her during those first four years.

After she found a church, she threw herself into all aspects and began attending Bible school. She was already in a media job, so she gathered the courage to ask her boss at Albania’s public television station to let her air a two-hour Christmas special. She then realized that beautiful spiritual vocabulary, such as grace or salvation, didn’t exist in the Albanian language. But God gave her the right words!

Through the success of that program, God called her to start Media 7 International, a Christian radio and television network that now comprises multiple stations across the Balkans. And since 2004, they’ve been able to translate many English sermons into Albanian and Serbian. This broadcast signal serves areas where there are no churches, which is such a blessing. Her team also enters these areas to address their physical needs, such as providing clothing, job training, and medical care.

Through one person, the hope of Christ is reaching far more people and places than she ever imagined.

What a blessing that God can use you and me for His work! For He will begin a good work in us and continue it until Jesus returns.
