Like an Eagle

Thanks to my house guest, and our Roaring Lambs San Antonio prayer coordinator, Stephanie Franklin, for her help with this devotion.

“You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely” (Psalm 59:9-10).

Do you believe you can rely on God? Are you waiting on him to provide in your life? Do you feel like you’re running out of time?

I am one who believes God can do the possible with the most impossible of all situations. I’ve seen it happen too many times. At the brink of despair, in the eleventh hour, or when all hope is lost, God shows up.

Today, I am watching for the Lord to draw the hearts of people to an event in San Antonio. Last month, we experienced the same situation. Only 15 were signed up on the Friday before, but the evangelical luncheon ended up with 50 in the seats.

We thought we’d build from our first successful start, but this time we are at the same number, with less than a week to go. Why is this happening? Maybe you’re asking the same question about something in your world.

Honestly, it’s not about the numbers. I’ve heard the speaker twice. She’s a former Muslim who has a powerful story of overcoming a lifetime of fear through her faith in Christ. I want others to be blessed by her message as well.

But after doing everything in our power to get people there, as one of our team members said during prayer-time together yesterday, “All we can do now is to stand still, and let God work.”

Standing still is not the easiest thing to do. We want to help out. We want to get busy. We strive, plan, and force.

Proud and Free Bald Eagle

But God says, “But those who wait on the Lord
 shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

God makes us wait to make us stronger. According to Barnes Notes on the Bible, the word “wait” means to wait on Yahweh, “to trust in him, to put our hope or confidence in him.”

As for the eagle, it is stronger and more courageous than most birds, and eagles love the storm because they use the storm’s wind to lift them higher above the clouds. The storm gives the eagle the ability to glide and rest its wings.

God wants us to fly higher like the eagle, closer to his throne, and rest in him while we wait for him to work.

So, today, I wait and soar above, expecting to see God’s amazing answer to our pleas for a successful luncheon.

Where are you waiting right now? Are you dwelling in a sea of worry, or are you hitching a ride with an eagle?

God wants us to live above, and trust that he alone can calm the storm below.
