Change in a Split-Second by Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.

How fast can change happen?

Immediately.

I spent the past few days on a rendezvous with God. It’s something I do at least once a year, and I lay all activities at His feet.

The LORD took me to a passage in which I had missed a detail before. It’s found in John 6:16-21. The disciples had gotten into their boat without Jesus and set out across the Sea of Galilee. The water was rough, and they were about three to four miles away from the shoreline when they saw Jesus walking on the water. Of course, they were frightened, but Jesus calmed them down saying, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” Once the overcame their fear, they tried to bring Jesus into the boat, but before they knew it, the boat immediately reached the shore where they were heading. In a split-second, Jesus had transported the disciples. I had missed that aspect of the story before.

I was recently struck by a similar display of Jesus’s power at the wedding in Cana where Jesus turned water into wine. This was His first miracle, and the first time Jesus’ disciples witnessed their rabbi’s glory. In addition, this miracle proved that Jesus could not only change the chemistry of a substance with lightning speed, but because of this, he could also perform other miracles with expediency.

Through repeat messages, Jesus reminded me that He can work fast.

On Wednesday, I was bummed because it poured rain all day. Although on a Sabbatical, I still wanted some pool time! But as soon as the rain finally stopped, God provided a beautiful rainbow that stretched across the water. It happened quickly.

As I worked out on Thursday morning, I noticed how windy it was outside. I was listening to a Jentezen Franklin sermon, and as soon as I had observed the wind, Franklin said, “Wind equals rearranging and fire equals change.” I realized that, because of the circumstances, this was a message for me.

Putting all together, I realized that my Sabbatical message was “God is rearranging my life, and it will happen quickly.” This realization could cause fear, but God is good, so I am expectant of good things, not bad. I will wait and watch.

This message could also be for you. If you have been praying for something, trust that Jesus has the ability to answer your prayer speedily. He can turn a situation around at the snap of His fingers. He is able and He has done it before.
