The God Lens by Dr. Lisa Burkhardt Worley
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know the hope to which he has called you… (Ephesians 1:18).

I’ve been extremely nearsighted since I was a little girl, but every morning when I walk, I am thankful for my corrected sight. There is so much of God’s creation to admire. There are beautiful Crepe Myrtle trees and Magnolias. One can scope out birds nesting and cute roly-poly bugs on the sidewalk.

The ability to see through two eyes is miraculous. There are many parts to the eye, but the eye lens is the last membrane that light passes through before reaching our retinas. It is the eye’s chance to fine-tune its focus. And as I thought about this phenomenon, I wondered, What if we also fine-tuned our focus to see the world as God sees it? We would view life through the God lens.
In Psalm 18:20-24, King David has a very interesting way of speaking about God’s perspective:
God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start. Now I’m alert to God’s ways; I don’t take God for granted. Every day I review the ways he works; I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes (The Message).

David said he was alert to God’s ways and didn’t want to miss a “trick.” He opened the book of his heart to the LORD’s eyes. What if we did the same? What if we pray to see each day through God’s eyes? To be aware of those God moments (tricks) that happen throughout the day. This is living life with a heavenly perspective—aware of the supernatural.

We do not want to miss anything that God is trying to do in our lives, and should analyze every scenario through His lens. We can ask the LORD, “How do you see this situation, Father?” We can also say, “Will you help me to never miss it when you are moving on my behalf?” When we do this, our spiritual vision will no longer be blurry, and we’ll see the hand of God more clearly in our lives.
